Hello Creatives!
It’s a new decade, the 10’s are gone and the 20’s are in. Each year brings new trends in design, this year is no different. The difference is change, let’s see how much has changed.
Minimalism
The subject of minimalism has been a trend everywhere and within the design world for the past few years. Minimalist design, however, will not be in the fore-front this year. There will be a shift to a more detailed and lush style of design and illustration for 2020.
Minimalism is taking a back seat
Gradients
The one trend that has remained for the past few years is gradients, it looks like they are here stay for 2020. Along with the non-minimalist trend, gradients will bring dimensional detail to any design project and marketing materials this year.
Take stock in stock
Stock
Something of a different trend that has been appearing is stock photos. This may have gone unnoticed but stock photos have been increasingly necessary and popular within the past year. Many design professionals use stock photos for the base of the designs and marketing collateral. It may be a good time to invest in some quality stock photos this year.
On the other hand, for any digital product creators out there, this would be a good time to “stock up“ on creating your own library of stock photos to offer this year.
Realism
This is tied to stock photo popularity for the year but it reaches beyond. Many 3D render creators are creating mock-ups of photo-realistic quality to showcase products, especially within shoe companies. They portray real-life photos but are 3-D renders of an object that are meticulously detailed.
Type Repetition
We started to see type repetition near the end of the last decade. This will continue into 2020 especially within poster design and web design. This also ties into the realism side of design with the hyper-realism of type being rendered in 3-D. Many of types of this form of design is also rendered as movable GIF's. This has grown in popularity recently and doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. These are the new design trends starting off the new year and the new decade.
